Not sure if this is coincidental or coinciding choreographically, but So’ Good Entertainment’s Christian Hip Hop acts are steady putting out work simultaneously in the same space of time, much like Reach Records are in the USA with a section of their artist roster. Phinix, DESTRO and Tony Grammz, all being under the record label prior to their releases, have all got new material out as well as coming soon…here’s the lowdown!

PHINIX

This young poetic, rapping wordsmith turned a year older on 6th September and with that released a compelling, mind-bending poetry piece called ’20/20 Vision’ which surprised listeners and appeased the hearts of those that said he hadn’t put out something in a while. DESTRO

This prolific deep voiced rapoet (yes, I just made that up, rapper and poet) recently released a 3-part video series called ‘Jesus Over Hip Hop’ on his Facebook fan page, that focused on how Jesus Christ should be above everything, including Hip Hop.

Regarding his forthcoming release, in his own words…

I believe the the poem will send shock waves that will spark up several conversations worth being had.

The referred to poem called ‘Can I Provoke You’ drops on the 3rd October 2017…yes, that’s only 1 day away.

TONY GRAMMZ

After quite the hiatus, this bearded lyrical genius came back on the scene after he announced the release of his EP ‘Progress In Progress’ earlier this year with Nigerian producer Charles Bass. His latest release toward the EP arrival, which he promises to be the first of several, is the song ‘Breathe‘, an upbeat Hip Hop/Neo Afro arrangement which also has a music video that came shortly after:

Yes…yes…yes…I know what you’re thinking; Tony Grammz FINALLY releases new music, right?!?!?

We haven’t heard from the So’ Good Entertainment solo act since he released his Hear, And Now single last year with Bonganii for The Nativez, so it’s definitely great to hear from him.

Usually known for his lyricism and complex delivery, we expected nothing less with the new single, though there are a few  other surprises on this one. Here’s what Tony himself had to say about his latest offering:

I like to think I’ve come a long way from ‘just rapping’. Charles and I begun work on the EP back in October of 2015 and this song stood out the most for me because of the high energy it brings. I’m always looking to bring more to the table each time I approach the mic,  and the best way for me to do that is to empty myself once more and let the Lord breathe in a new sound, no pun intended [ha ha ha]. Progress In Progress is a story about growth, and initially, you just need to take a breath, self-assess and let God lead.

By putting out the artwork without the title on Saturday morning and having the public #GuessTheTitle of the song before it’s release just by looking at the artwork, Tony and Charles created an interesting buzz around the release. With Retunes leading the distribution of it via free download on their website, Tony also opted to have the song up for sale on major digital online stores such as iTunes and Amazon, something we noticed he didn’t usually do with his previous music releases. When asked about that, he said:

Yeah, I mean, I think another aspect of growth is knowing your worth and understanding the importance in value that the Lord has placed in you. I feel I’m in a space where I’m finally creating music worth purchasing, though I borrow a principle from one of my favorite record labels Humble Beast, which is, freely received, freely given. Aside from helping my brand and furtherance of my ministry by monetizing the music, we’ll always offer it for free download, that’s why we had Retunes come into play with that. Merchandise and such are on sale otherwise.

In addition, the globally popular lyric-centered platform Genius recently verified Tony Grammz as an artist on their website, so you can read the lyrics to the song as you listen to it to see exactly what the fuss is about with this song.

I for one am impressed with this work. It gets me excited about what’s to come for the new EP #ProgressInProgress that these two are cooking up. Maybe we’ll see a music video for #Breathe? Maybe we’ll see the #ProgressInProgress trucker hats currently on sale be able to ship worldwide aside from Tony’s current location, Ukraine? I guess….we wait and see. Hey So’ Goodians! I got wind that Zambian rap starlet Bomb$hell released an unofficial cover art for a possible new single that she might be releasing to her fans soon.

Like all of you, I have been seeing the #BWomanEnough hashtag flying around social media from her fan page (which hit the 19,000 fan milestone, BTW), being shared by her label mates and fans alike and wondering what the hubbub was really about.

So I started poking around and her fan page finally spoke out about her upcoming single titled Only A Girl. This will be her second official single for 2017, featuring and produced by the creative and unconventional Kekero.

It will not be the first time that these two are working together as Kekero was the mastermind behind the soulful rhythms of Tiye P’s hit single Ana Jaila that Bomb$hell & co. remixed and received massive acclaim for. Based on that record, this new single must be something to lookout for.

Soooo, if you’re probably among the number of people that closely follow Zambian Christian Hip Hop (or even just Zambian music in general), you’d realize that So’ Good Entertainment artist Tony Grammz who announced his EP release at the beginning of this year has been holding out on us quite a bit. Where is the content!!!???

With only a few weeks to go, seasoned artist James Sakala is set to release his new album Insale on 11th February 2017 at the Intercontinental Hotel, Lusaka, Zambia.

In a sit down with him, James mentioned to me:

…the reason I’m doing this music is to preserve the authentic Zambian sound [kalindula] for posterity, that is actually the reason I collaborated with the legend Dr Oliver Mtukudzi…so who ever is gonna find time to be at the launch is part of the movement. We are making history together…

I’ll definitely be looking forward to this then. The event starts at 19:00hrs, the ticket charges are K200 ordinary and K350 VIP, which can be gotten from Manda Hill and East Park MTN service centers.

We’re hardly into the new year and this just came in! So’ Good Entertainment long time artist Tony Grammz, who has been quite behind the scenes for the past couple of years since his debut mixtape release of G.O.S.P.E.L in 2014 just announced the release of a new EP project called ‘Progress In Progress’, in collaboration with a producer whose sound we are yet to familiarize ourselves with, Charles Bass.

Tagging this project ‘…a story about growth’, Tony says this is the most daring project he has put together and has been working at it for the entirety of the past year. Pulling from his Ministerial training, evolution into manhood and counsel from family, leaders and friends; he’s decided to lay it all down in the music. I’m definitely looking forward to this, I bet you are too!
